This course is aimed at giving you the background and context of functional safety compared with general safety and process safety. It provides a historical perspective on the development of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) in electrical and electronic equipment terms, from the 1960's to today. The full SIS safety lifecycle is introduced, including an overview of each lifecycle phase in terms of required inputs, procedures, and expected results.
