Layer of Protection Analysis for SIL studies in hazardous COMAH / SEVESO III sites

Duration: 2 days
Availability: Onsite by arrangement
Course Code: eFF-002

Layer of Protection Analysis - LoPA - is the new "go-to" method for many in the process industry who are looking to determine if risk has been reduced adequately by protection layers. It is now commonly used to determine Safety Integrity Level - SIL - for safety instrumented systems.

Things you will learn about on this course:

  • What LoPA is used for and its limitations
  • How LoPA works for SIL determination
  • How to systematically identify LoPA scenarios from HAZOP or other hazard studies
  • Common initiating events and their frequencies of occurrence
  • Protection layer attributes to correctly credit protection layers for risk reduction
  • Common protection layers and their typical failure probabilities
  • Real-world examples of a several LoPA scenarios, including worked exercises
